Care & Protection

Care and protection matters are distinct from general family law and involve the intervention of government authorities, such as the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (formerly FACS). Family laws are the same all over Australia. Howver, Care and Protection laws vary in each State and Territory.

We represent both parents and children in care proceedings and can guide you through each stage of the process—from initial concerns to court appearances.

Our child law services include:

  • Legal representation in Children’s Court proceedings
  • Advice regarding DCJ/FACS intervention
  • Responding to care applications and placement decisions
  • Supporting reunification and contact with children in care

Care and protection matters are sensitive and complex. If you are involved in a case or have been contacted by FACS or DCJ, it's important to seek advice early. Contact our team today to arrange a confidential consultation.

Have you been contacted by the Department of Communities & Justice (formerly FACS)?

We represent parents and children in care and protection matters and help you understand your rights at every stage of the process.

These cases often involve:

  • Concerns raised about the safety or wellbeing of a child
  • DCJ (FACS) involvement and investigations
  • Court proceedings under the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act
  • Decisions about who a child lives with and sees
